Major players in the browser games market include Zynga, Tencent, Microsoft, Activision Blizzard Inc., Sega, Sony Corporation and Peak Games.

Zynga's big move and Playco:

Zynga began by building games for Facebook, becoming a behemoth valued in the billions and going public. It has since branched into other platforms such as mobile gaming and in 2021 is expecting $2.7 billion in revenue, up 37% from 2020. What is interesting to note is that the founder of Zynga, Justin Waldron, recently began a new venture called Playco with a focus on building a browser based game engine and instant gaming. On September 2020 they finished a $100m Series A valuing the company at over $1bn.(Source) The success of games such as Minecraft, Roblox, and Fortnite, are already changing the way people interact with games, signaling huge implications for brand involvement. We wish to position ourselves as creating easily shareable and accessible experiences over the web.

Instant Games

Recently Jon Lai, [email protected] and Ex product @RiotGames and @TencentGlobal wrote about instant games, explaining how much opportunity there is in creating absorbing, fun experiences that users can take part in without the hassle of downloading apps or even registering.
"The future of games is instant. A new generation of instant games is melding the accessibility of Flash games with the performance of native apps. These games are poised to reshape the market for both players & creators". We completely agree, the demise of Flash does not mean the demise of browser based gaming. We believe Kip Engine can help enable developers of all skill levels to create imaginative new experiences with the option of creating NFTs and fully utilising the benefits of blockchain, delivered at blazingly fast speeds directly through the browser.

Entry of Netflix, Amazon and Disney into online gaming.

Video games are competitive, social and lead to amazing financial opportunities for people who can make it professionally. The giants of media are also keen: Netflix is looking to expand into gaming as is Amazon. Casual gaming, metaverse type games like Fortnite, Roblox and instant gaming is seen as a massive space that many are spending billions entering.
